I took a long walk through the forest yesterday and I'm lucky I wasn't concussed. Nuts were falling from the trees in profusion. It's time to forage.

Acorns are a lot of work. The nuts are hard to crack, and you have to soak the nutmeat several times to remove the bitter tannins. However, it makes a delicious flour.

Hickory nuts taste a lot like pecans. Spread the hickory nuts out in the sun for a couple of weeks so that they dry and shrink away from the husk. Then simply crack them with a nutcracker.
