Last summer I noticed a juvenile female ruby-throated hummingbird with this blaze of white on top of her head. I had never seen a marking like that before.

She came back this spring and had several babies bearing the same mark. This juvenile male is her offspring. I hope I see him next year when his adult coloring appears. I imagine he'll be pretty striking.

In this photograph, he is lightly perched on pink petals while sipping nectar from this beautiful zinnia flower.

I love wandering Tennessee's wild places with my camera.
